From its perch on the hill, the church looked out over the whole community, a symbol of faith and tradition that had been a constant in the town for generations. As the churchgoers made their way up the hill that Sunday, the town smiled, feeling both unified and divided, a reflection of the complex and sometimes contradictory nature of religion within a community.
