In the past, Chinese people hung lanterns in front of their doors to drive away evil spirits. Today lanterns are an iconic symbol of East Asian culture and remain an object of fascination among foreigners who celebrate the beauty and traditions of countries like China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.
For Taipei based photographer Andrew Haimerl, lanterns have been an object frequently captured through out his 7+ year street photography journey. While hoping to capture many aspects of Taiwanese culture he can share with the world, he often finds himself drawn to (and sometimes obsessed) with capturing night lantern scenes through out Taipei where he normally shoots.
In 'Vibrant Nights: A Collection of 30 Lanterns by Andrew Haimerl,' Andrew reveals some of his most iconic and vibrant night shots of lanterns. He employs a number of camera methods and tricks to capture unique shots —that hopefully will bring you joy and inspiration.
