Description

“Flicker” is a series of works situated within my larger cycle “Between Organic, Synthetic, Chaos and Control.” This series is created using generated video followed by manual frame-by-frame processing and the introduction of distortions and glitches. The series of video works imitates a screen capture that alternately disintegrates and attempts to reassemble into a coherent image.

“Flicker” is a reflection on a world in which the glitch is not perceived as an error, but as a given condition — a source code, a fundamental particle of the world. It is a constantly flickering, shifting structure, or even a state — a situation that recomposes itself into something new every second.

Upon entering this space, all former points of stability cease to function, and the only way forward is to remain fluid: to merge with this structure, to surrender to this vulnerable state and loose ground, and to trust the flow.

What do we see when we look at this image? We perceive what appear to be spontaneous distortions, but in fact each frame is deliberately and precisely corrupted through glitch. This raises the question: does every form of spontaneity rest upon an underlying uncontrollable structure, and what are we actually seeing when we look at chaos?
