Vanishing Migrations is a work that blends creative manual and generative techniques with data visualization to offer a vision of beauty paired with a sense of fragility.
The elegant, majestic movements of the cranes showcased in parallel in the three works of the series, with the side pieces of the tryptich effecting supernatural symmetry and synchronization, elevate the birds from mere representation to an archetype of the species.
Yet the beauty of their flight amidst the heavens cannot fully distract us from their constituent parts being in a state of instability, disappearing here and there, much as individual migratory birds within impacted species keep flickering out of existence due to a myriad of largely anthropogenic factors.
Indeed, all of this points towards the uncomfortable implication brought to fore by the end of the audiovisual tryptich that shows all three cranes fade from the sky; if we do not find the ways to change the course of our prospective future, the very extinction of some species will become mournful eternal proofs of our apathy and negligence as stewards and caretakers of the natural world.
