In the world of computer & Internet we all have, at least once, come across a glitch and a computer virus. I am fascinated by both. I study glitches and I use them to make my art. Malwarez are, like it or not, part of computer history. Their evolution has been wild and huge. From simple programs to challange other programmers and prank early computer network users, they eventually became powerful weapons to cause damages, ransoms, wars. Considered a primitive generation of smart softwarez, before they became dangerous and silent, they were manifesting their presence through edgy graphic art works. Part of my series V1R0L0GY, this work is a celebration of computer failures, computer culture, internet history and the poetic of chaos.
This is Barrotes, the seventh of the series being minted as NFT.
Barrotes is a small family of Windows viruses, aiming to infect .com, .exe and .ovl files. It's origins are traceble from Spain. When Barrotes is executed it becomes resident in the system memory. The virus immediately infects COMMAND.COM. It infects every .com, .exe and .ovl files that are executed, appending itself to the filez. Barrotes's payload activates on January 5. It overwrites the master boot record of the first hard disk it will find. Consequently it will display coloured bars on the screen with the words "Virus BARROTES pro OSoft". The funny thing is that users will be still able to use their machines, but the bars will remain on displaying, very nasty and infuriating.
