This painting is inspired by the famous Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo da Vinci. The original portrait depicts Cecilia Gallerani, one of the Duke of Milan's favorite women, known not only for her beauty but also for her remarkable intelligence in poetry and knowledge. In da Vinci's work, the ermine symbolizes purity and nobility. However, in my reinterpretation, I use the ermine as a symbol of freedom and the search for a new meaning.
By adding a touch of surrealism to the lady's face, I've aimed to create a bridge connecting the past with the modern world. The lady no longer lives among the nobility. She has traveled through time and now exists in an unknown world. The ermine, her only companion, represents the new experiences she encounters. She has left behind the aristocracy in search of freedom, and now she is here with us, ready for new adventures.
My goal in this piece was, first and foremost, to preserve the essence of the original work, while blending it with my personal style and perspective.
