Aulë is the Lord of the Earth and Mountains, the Great Maker/Inventor of the Valar. His music dealt with the very shape of Arda; rock and earth in all its forms. The Dwarves were his creation and it was he who constructed the great lamps Illuin and Ormal as well as Angainor, the chain of Melkor. He rebuilt Arda after Melkor’s period of destruction.
