The Metamodern Self - 1 | Persona sketch: Faust

This series is a tribute to each self I’ve been, was, and am becoming. I am always already each one of them. A possibility. A missed opportunity. A memory without a history. A paratextual body without organs. Aporia.

"Two souls live in me, alas, Irreconcilable with one another."

  • Faust, Part 1, Scene 2

About the series:

The Metamodern Self series is a personal project of digital pastiche that reconciles different iterations of myself throughout the years. Luke Turner, in his manifesto, emphasizes the movement as “oscillation between positions, with diametrically opposed ideas operating like the pulsating polarities of a colossal electric machine, propelling the world into action.”

Growing up incognizant to postmodern ideologies, it was the culture that made me. In the same vein, modernism was the culture that made those who made me. Given our different historical and social milieu, I was a product of different versions of two different ideologies all at the same time.

There have been multiple occurrences of myself and every one of us at some point in time. When the self manifests itself as pure, whole, and dense. I am asynchronous.
