He was midway on a journey toward an unknown destination. He didn’t know what lay at the end of the darkness and silence. No one knows. But never before had he faced the boundless, deafening volume of silence. Now he does. Now that he’s been cast out from everywhere. Cut off from all connections. From the earth, home, family, from everything. There was supposed to be another place found for living. But he let go of all hope. He decided, in his final act, to tear off the cord attached to his body and let himself drift into space. The astronaut goes and goes. Until suddenly, like the beginning of the process of dying, images appeared before his eyes. Colors submerged into one another. They swirled and intertwined. He was seeing it. A black hole. And this was his final moment. He is pulled into the black hole, and this is the end of existence, or perhaps the beginning of somewhere else.
