Description

A small water fowl drowned in the driftwood off the Coastal docks of Port Orford, Oregon.

It is a story of grief. My life in Los Angeles had come to an abrupt end. I was in mourning. The world I haphazardly nurtured into a place of thriving esteem through so many traumatic experiences and transforming my vision of self through the evolution of an annihilated soul was over. It became my redemption. I had left everything behind me: belongings, friends, lifestyle, photography, my yoga community and lifeline, my heart.

Always with the “intention” of going Home, I met a man. A man who is now my beloved wild, unruly, fantastic, brilliant, and brilliantly outspoken husband. It was an instant recognition. Much like a falling star that lands just inside your sphere of influence and illuminates that there is a oneness in the Universe and you just stepped inside the circle. This small grey bird washed up on the shore and drowned amongst the driftwood was waiting for me. During the first few months my husband and I were together he took me to this beach to take pictures. Where men before him have often asked why I need to take pictures, as if it were some slight to their manhood, he understood and even welcomed me to BE exactly who I am, no questions asked.

Truly the death of one life brings another into being. This cycle of life and death is as beautiful as it can be deeply disconcerting, even ugly, but I don’t see it that way.
