Batik is a traditional Indonesian cloth that originated from the island of java in the late 1800 and is still used today throughout Indonesia. In 2009, UNESCO recognized batik as a masterpiece of oral and intangible heritage of humanity, and so National batik day is celebrated every year on the 2nd of October to mark the Anniversary. Motifs also played a role in showing status where larger the motif meant higher ranking in their kingdom.
