Description
A grove of bald cypress trees stand tall in the water of Horseshoe Lake. Their ancient knobby knees peak out over the surface of the water allowing air to get to the trees' always submerged roots. Cypress trees grow very slowly and can withstand great pressure from nature. These trees stand in an area prone to flooding whenever the Mississippi River gets out of its banks. Even when a levee break sent a deluge of rushing water and flood debris their way, these ancient trees held fast to the earth and still stand tall.
