From my chase diary:

5/6/15 Chickasha Area Chase We started our chase yesterday in Frederick, OK, where we happened upon a big fire, building in flames. From there, we were going to figure out where to go. We saw the tornado warned storm developing, heading into the Chickasha area, and decided to try our best to get there. We made it there, and got onto a street with a bunch of other chasers and responders. Decided to leave the area, ended up at the high school, photographed some trees down, then moved over to H.E.Bailey Turnpike. The whole way there were cars stopped on the shoulder, but we kept going. One car, decided to come back toward us, then proceeded to back into another car for no apparent reason. We went on, trying not to actually get into the tornado ahead of us. All of a sudden, I yelled "stop". Tom, who was driving, slammed on the brakes as we hit a huge, steel wire, strung across the freeway, about 12 inches off the ground. We hit it, then the chaser behind us skidded, almost hit us, and ran into the wire. The wire (as you could see in my stream), took off his bumper. We both stopped. Unfortunately, while we were stopped (oh, and there were two cars right next to us and pictured that had a tree into one of them and broken out windows in the other, pretty badly damaged), 3 official vehicles stopped just in front of us and blocked the road. Then a cop came up and told us we couldn't go any further (at this point, the tornado was crossing the highway just a few miles up. We were very frustated, but obeyed. The chaser who's bumper was off made a run for it when the cop turned his back. We decided not to attempt that. They finally let us turn around and go the opposite way on the wrong side of the freeway. We managed to get east and waited while another storm fired up, became tornado warned, and formed a tornado in the distance in front of us. The whole chase day we were in tornado warned cells. After that storm came over us, and was rotating a lot right above us, we decided not to take a chance and go northeast to Tuttle. Unfortunately, we had to fight our way through weather to Tuttle and ended up in an initial, bad hail storm. We finally moved about a block away, and it started again. The hail last at least 45 min. There were a ton of emergency vehicles that went by us and stopped about a block away. We ended up not getting out to see what was going on, but apparently some exotic animals got loose (tigers). We totally should have stayed for that had we known! Finally, we headed back to Norman, just as a tornado was again in that area. It was just to the east of us, but we ended up getting on 35 and heading home. It was def. quite the adventure and my passengers, Tom (who drove my car most of the time) and Toi did an amazing job. Looking forward to what Saturday will bring. See less
