I served in the U.S. Navy in the years following 9/11, during what became known as the Second Gulf War. One of my deployments was to the Persian Gulf during a time when Iran was threatening to close the Strait of Hormuz.
It never escalated into open conflict, but it came close. I still think about the weight of those nights, sitting at battle stations, waiting. Wrapped in silence. Surrounded by red light.
There was no war then, but the tension never really left.

This piece isn't a traditional video. It's 236,776 vector triangles, arranged into 62 SVG frames, and animated at ten frames per second. The final work, with audio, is compiled into a custom HTML5 player. I developed this method to animate my 'geoevo' style and this piece marks its debut. Because the animation is vector-based, it's infinitely scalable while retaining perfect quality.
Part of the audio loop (click to play) was taken from a friend's recording of a ship I served on. He preferred not to be named, but I appreciate him.
