The Kodiak bear, also known as the Alaskan brown bear, is a massive subspecies found in southwest Alaska. They are among the largest bears, reaching up to 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms) and 10 feet (3 meters) tall. With thick fur and a distinctive hump, they are skilled swimmers and climbers. Despite their size, they typically avoid humans unless provoked. Conservation efforts protect these iconic bears and their habitat.
