One of my very first finalized renders created back in 2005. At the time I really didn't have a full understanding as to how I wanted to continue working with computers in the long run. Learning how to use photoshop at the time really gave me an opportunity to stretch my imagination with these renders.
The scene is very simple, consisting of a sphere within a sphere along with a Boolean operation to "hollow out" the model. I then grouped two cylinders together and performed the same Boolean operation against the hollowed-out model. Threw everything into a reflective sphere, set up a few stationary lights, and created a custom material for the surface and inner parts of the model. A raycast light was thrown in the middle of the object to give it more light from inside. The effect you see is what happens when the rendering software tries to solve for having a curved mirror surrounding an object. Raycast renering software just handled it well for the time.
