Throughout my ‘Pursuit of Altitude’, there have been a few instances where I have been flying my drone, scouting compositions at a given location, and stumbled on a frame where I knew instantly that I had found something breathtaking. I had seen this area captured many times, but never from this perspective.
When I’m at a location that has already been captured beautifully, I try to dedicate an entire battery to scouting new vantage points of a scene. In this case, it paid off largely.
This image is of the composition I found, however re-captured the following day. I had to return to capture this image with the right morning light, of which the best had already passed the previous day when I found it. My efforts were rewarded greatly as I was greeted by stunning morning light illuminating the vast network of mangroves below, the rivers looking like a labyrinth moat surrounding the monolithic limestone ‘Fortress’ in the center of the composition.
