Author: Tanya Matveeva (art duo WM)
Description:
This drawing is a topographical map of an internal escape.
The work was created in 2019, at the epicenter of the first wave of isolation. The external world had shrunk to the size of a room, while the internal one was tearing apart with anxiety. In this vacuum, the moving body became the only guide back to oneself.
Technique and material: Oil pastel on paper, 60*40 cm. This is an imprint of a state of freedom attained through the body. This work is the ground zero, the first clue. It documentarily captures the moment when personal trauma (Covid isolation) was realized not as a dead end, but as a reason for somatic research. It is here that the future duo's methodology originates: an interest in the body not as an object, but as an instrument of cognition and liberation.
