diversity is the key. the title of this piece should actually read "pick your favorite painter", as the nine artists that are its focus share this technique and, to some extent, even a pretty close aesthetic. their names are as follows (in no particular order): hernan bas, cecily brown, dana schutz, nicole eisenman, peter doig, francis bacon, neo rauch, odilon redon, and justin mortimer. all of them are more or less young and successful artists; i decided to include francis bacon and odilon redon as well because in my opinion their style is still relevant today. while the dichotomy between the title and content might testify to a given situation in the so-called "art world" ecosystem, the focus of the work here has been another one.
firstly, this is a continuation of my previous long-form generative ai project installment on EmProps called ~REDO(N). like in the previous drop, i aim to explore the relationship between ai and so-called "traditional" techniques, which is still the most significant issue related to this novel creative paradigm. in some ways, with this new tribute, i am taking the approach of that series to its extreme consequences: with 45 features and 47,385 possible combinations, this work is essentially about 200 times larger, requiring an archetypal perspective on its composition that aligns with the data-centric one of the medium. this has been sought through forcing juxtapositions of characteristics and subjects.
