Description
"What could scare you when I'm embracing you and your newborn? They will drink their first milk from my hands and I will be the reason for their first smile. You are, woman, blessed with this endless recreation. You are not carrying a mankind in your uterus and not giving birth to a child; you are giving birth to a world and they will recompose the universe."
- Umay is the Goddess of fertility and she is a protector of women, mothers & children according to Turkic mythology and Tengriism. The oldest evidence is seen in the ancient Orkhon Script monuments. When a child is born, Umay arrives there with a drop taken from the Sutgol (Milk Lake) in the celestial realm and rubs this on the child's lips. It is believed that by this drop Umay gives them a spirit and protects them for 3 days. If the child smiles, this means that Umay is with them but unfortunately, Umay's long-term separation with the child results in the child's illness.
