Beekeeper suit and mask during medieval era is referenced and illustrated in many sources, including a painting by Pieter Bruegel The Elder (1568). Made from wickered bamboo or rattan, the mask is sewn to the hood/upper part of the suit to keep bees out while the beekeeper is tending to the hive or harvesting honey.
