This token serves as a certificate of authenticity for the original wood engraving and shall always accompany the physical work. Upon resale on the secondary market, the wood engraving shall be shipped to the new owner. The receiver will cover shipping costs.

Longing / Saudade is a series of generative wood engravings. First displayed in 2022, the work takes its starting point in the contrasts that arise when our idealized images of nature meet nature’s realities. The viewer is invited to engage in the conflict between “perfect” and rigid systems, fully controlled by humans, and our physical realities, where we are subordinate to the forces of nature.

These opposing poles manifest in the work’s material and process: It is made from wood, a natural material, yet engraved with an industrial machine using a visual language that sets mathematical perfection against organic complexity. The wood is burnt to create a surface that brings out strong visual contrasts, black against white, while at the same time making the work durable enough to be exhibited outdoors.
