The discovery of bioluminescent fungus in the boreal forests of Angelica on k452b showed for the first time that complex, DNA based life was neither exclusive or confined solely to Earth but rather a common & spontaneous function of the Galaxy, opening a new question frontier - is life exclusive to the Milky Way ? Whatever that answer may be & it might never be answered, we now know for certain that lifeforms' appearance and evolutionary specialisation are a matter of ergonomics driven as we know by copying errors at predictable ratess & random chance, converging on convenient forms apt for survival in the environment on at least 2 known planets. The repeated discovery of commonly recognised life forms were a surprise to the crew of SS Canaveral, yet unsurprisingly, lifeforms resembling nothing seen in Earth's long fossil records were abundant. Interestingly, organisms which resembled in some way, the form but not necessarily the function of Earth life provided intriguing & thought provoking insights for biochemists & biologists back home. One thing was certain, carbon based life, dependent on water & the heavier elements was now likely to be ubiquitous.
