Description

Working on Exploder and Returns together for over 6 months, from the "Compositions in Code" show at MoMI, NYC to the long-form release with Objkt, Aleksandra and I have been joking about admiring each other's colors. A remix was all but inevitable.

This is my attempt at rendering Exploder in a Jovanic style, using Aleksandra's colors and emulating her clean lines and visual style as I've come to understand it.

The composition is kept neatly in focus, without the threat of breaking out of frame the way most of my Exploders tend to do. (This being a still image made that easier, of course.)

In reference to their tape drawing origin, my Exploders use a sharp color logic, but for this mashup a softer shading seemed appropriate. Gradients are measured and subtle, the colors still clearly artificial, yet the combined effect somehow organic.

Finally, it seemed natural to give the filled forms an outline to make them unambiguous, "proper" 3D with clear boundaries (unlike my flat, occluded color fields.) This is a nod to Aleksandra's cartography-like legibility. The forms might be abstract, but her compositions read like maps.
