In ancient times, there was a great catastrophe in the heavens and the earth. The four pillars supporting the heavens and the earth collapsed, the earth cracked, the sky was damaged, fires spread, the waters became immense, and ferocious beasts and birds endangered the people. To save mankind, Nuwa decided to take action.

First, Nuwa smelted five-colored stones to repair the sky, then she cut off the feet of a giant turtle in the sea to make a pillar to support the four directions, then she killed the black dragon, and lastly, she used reed ash to hold back the flood. After Nuwa's efforts, the sky was mended, the pillars of the four directions of heaven and earth were re-erected, the floodwaters receded, and peace was restored to the land. The ferocious birds and beasts died, and the people survived.
