available data: very unique hybrid

mostly epiphyte (growing on other plants), although some are lithophytes (growing on rocks) or terrestrials (growing in soil)

widespread from northern mexico, the caribbean, and some parts of south florida to south america

always occur in seasonally dry areas

the petals serve to attract pollinating insects, hide and protect essential organs

following pollination, petals usually will undergo senescence because it is metabolically expensive to maintain them
