'The Edge of Life' is a part of my Indo Futurism series ,where I am reinterpreting characters from native traditions in a Science fiction environment and this work is based on the ritualistic art form 'Theyyam' . In South India 'Theyyam' can be seen as a vibrant art form that is very much presented as a form of resistance, a way to uphold the spirit of the protest from the downtrodden communities of the society! This artwork is based on a Theyyam named 'Gulikan' - a unique Theyyam with its huge headgear made of areca nut palm, 'Gulikan Theyyam' represents the Hindu 'God of death'. This illustration is a representation of the ultimate destiny of human life - that's death .What's beyond human life? May be a place where emptiness and substance neatly overlap, where the memories form a continuous loop, where the Gods come closer to you saying it's going to be alright. The Sci-Fi characters are inspired from the appearance of 'Gulikan Theyyam'.
