"Midway upon the journey of our life, I found myself within a forest dark, For the straightforward path had been lost."
Italian (original version)
Nel mezzo del cammin di nostra vita, mi ritrovai per una selva oscura, ché la diritta via era smarrita.
The Divine Comedy, written by the Italian poet Dante Alighieri in the early 14th century, stands as a cornerstone of world literature. It is celebrated for its vivid imagery, profound allegory and timeless exploration of themes such as human nature, divine justice and the afterlife. Structured in three parts—Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso—the poem takes readers on an extraordinary journey through Hell, Purgatory and Heaven, reflecting Dante's vision of the soul's quest for redemption and ultimate union with the divine.
The incipit of The Divine Comedy sets the stage for Dante's epic spiritual journey. It depicts the poet, lost in a dark forest, symbolizing confusion and sin, as he begins a quest for redemption.
Incipit. About the Collection.
This project explores where the evocative power of literature meets the creative possibilities of artificial intelligence. Each artwork draws inspiration from the opening lines of famous literary works, transforming their words into visual expressions. Crafted in the style of specific artists, these pieces merge the timeless essence of literary classics with the distinctive touch of celebrated artists. Two rules guide this process: only incipit words, with added artistic direction, are used and the works remain unedited, preserving the raw authenticity of the AI’s interpretation.
In this process, the roles of creator and curator merge, as the author selects both the literature and the styles and techniques applied, shaping a unified vision that blends literary inspiration with artistic interpretation.
