According to the legend, Urashima Taro was fishing one day when he saw a group of children torturing a small turtle. He intervened and saved the turtle, releasing it back into the sea.

The next day, a giant turtle appeared and told Urashima that the small turtle he had saved was actually a princess of the sea, and as a reward for his kindness, she wanted to take him to her underwater kingdom to thank him.
