"Glitch Temple" is a visual meditation where errors become sacred, and imperfections reveal the underlying truth of our reality. The series transforms traditional temple photography into complex compositions that mirror Taiwan's contemporary existence - a state of beautiful contradictions and perpetual flux.
The works navigate the liminal space between recognition and abstraction, where familiar temple motifs dissolve and resurface through glitch-induced patterns. This digital metamorphosis echoes Taiwan's cultural resilience - its ability to adapt and thrive while maintaining its essential character amid external pressures and internal transformations.
Just as Taiwan exists in a space of political ambiguity and cultural hybridization, these works embrace the 'wrong' and the 'contradictory' as essential truths rather than flaws. The digital glitches serve as metaphors for the disruptions, uncertainties, and challenges faced by Taiwanese society, while simultaneously celebrating these very characteristics as sources of unique identity and strength.
Through this series, a new visual language emerges that honors both traditional spiritual spaces and contemporary digital art practices, while also serving as a commentary on Taiwan's position in our contemporary world. Process: The creation process focuses on generative transformation, and embraces the open-source values, creating a dialogue between traditional temple photography and digital intervention. The creation unfolds in three stages:
Initial Documentation Photography of Taiwanese temples, capturing architectural details, religious symbols, and cultural significance
Digital Transformation Utilizing Processing, an open-source creative coding platform. Implementing open-source scripts from GenerateMe and other sources to achieve various glitch effects. Manipulating parameters and random variables to create unexpected visual outcomes Each iteration produces unique results through algorithmic processes
Artistic Interpretation Through data manipulation and post-processing, the final refinement makes the work a collaboration between personal artistry and computer-generated results.
