Nereids - in ancient Greek mythology, sea deities, nymphs, daughters of Nereus and the oceanids of Dorida. They often accompany Poseidon, god of the sea, and can be friendly and helpful to sailors, such as the Argonauts in their quest for the Golden Fleece. Nereids symbolized everything beautiful and good that is in the sea.
