As a child we're taught that good things happen to good people, and we might be punished if we step out of line.

As adults, we realize that terrible things befall good people, and those who parasitize from others can be rewarded.

The idea of a curse that is in some way karmic retribution is somewhat of a myth. Throughout mythology women are often cursed for the failings of men, and the rokurokubi yokai is no different, often started through a cycle of betrayal - but only it is the betrayed who becomes the monster.

Yet despite being cursed, might there be something noble about continuing on living? To be brave and retain ones humanity despite the inhuman transformation? Or is that simply hatred holding onto the hope of vengeance?
