Fisherwomen imagines a fictional African coastal society where the ocean shapes everything. At the centre of the collection is a community whose clothing, work,traditions, architecture and understanding of beauty have developed through an intimate relationship with the ocean. Although African influences can be felt throughout the work, Fisherwomen does not attempt to reproduce any single existing African culture.
