Description

a cube against a rectangle background. cube is seen from an isometric point of view. inside each cube is a pyramid pointing up. the base of the pyramid is that of the cube. the tip of the pyramid intersects the center of the top surface of the cube. each pyramid is bisected at each corner by a column that is about one tenth the length of a cube wide and as tall as the cube. these columns enclose the pyramid and help to define the modular shapes produced by a Boolean intersection of pyramid, 4 columns and cube. in their final form these intersect modules unfold and transform. but in this drawing study they are fixed and are drawn as either being present or not.

the four nested elements: cube, pyramid, columns and intersections are drawn with lines of varied thickness so as to produce pictorial illusion of depth, form, mass, volume, surface both as perceived matter and as if they are x rayed or diaphanous.

each cube is drawn from a grid of triangles. this underlying grid provides the ground from which the figure is seen and or distinguished. the relationship between figure and ground is fraught and the cubes clash with patterns, lines and triangles intentionally to provoke a lot of back and forth.

each drawing is produced in a range of colors, but bright pastels, neons and in high frequency.
