Drifting Apart is an exploration of texture layering in real-time using cables.gl, dithering, slicing lines, blend modes, and post processing. I've always been obsessed with the combination of scan lines and noise. I tried to evoke a feeling of staring at an old tv for a long time trying to find patterns in the static.
A quiet creek of bubbles moves across a gradient while clouds and straight-ish lines interrupt their flow, sometimes dramatically, sometimes gently.
It is fully interactive and playable, you can control the real-time effects by using the z, x, c, v, b keys on your keyboard as well as clicking inside anywhere to twist the pixels around your mouse cursor or finger.
There is a dropdown menu accessible from the top left of the canvas, just click to bring it up, you can adjust the speed of the piece as well as some of the FX and see detailed information about how your seed affects the piece.
If you decrease the Live FX Delay in the menu to 0 the z/x/c/v/b effects will become toggles if you want to "play" this piece along with your music like a VJ, it's highly encouraged. :D
