Description

Families displaced by the Lower Suktel Dam Project in Odisha’s Balangir district continue to face rehabilitation challenges. Despite sacrificing their homeland for the project, many issues remain unresolved. The dam, considered Balangir’s lifeline, submerged 29 villages, affecting 11,606 families – 7,212 completely and 4,126 partially. While relocation was carried out hurriedly after water began filling the reservoir, problems persist. What was once a village is now a vast water body. The dam’s scenic beauty contrast with the sorrow of those who lost their homes and are still waiting for proper rehabilitation and support. // Artist – Tulsi Shankar kumbhar Medium – Photography Dimension – 6720×3988 Camera – EOS Canon 5D Mark IV // About the artist – I am Tulsi Shankar Kumbhar, a self-taught photographer based in India.
