Nearly ten times as salty as the ocean is the Dead Sea. More than 35 different types of minerals, including iodine, bromine, magnesium, calcium, and potassium, are present in the water.

The strange chemistry processes cause some impressive salt crystal forms to develop. The "salt mushrooms" are the most striking of these natural sculptures.
