Leaning on the desk in her bedroom, Manuelita poses for her official portrait. A multitude of underwater beings have invaded space: fish, algae, corals and a large crab that appears from behind its head. Denying the illusory character of the scene, a fish lies out of the water, on the surface of the drawing... It is my own version of the Portrait of Manuelita Rosas, by Prilidiano Pueyrredón (1851), which is in the National Museum of Fine Arts, in Buenos Aires.
