Description

The Legend of the Pink River Dolphin, or simply the Legend of the River Dolphin, is an indigenous legend that is part of Brazilian folklore. It originates in the Amazon region, in the North of the country.

The legend says that the pink river dolphin, an intelligent, dolphin-like animal that lives in the Amazon waters, transforms into a beautiful, elegant young man on the nights of a full moon.

He usually appears during the June festivities, during the celebrations of the popular saints (Saint Anthony, Saint John and Saint Peter), the so-called Festas Juninas.

He comes dressed in white and wearing a big hat in order to hide his nostrils, because his transformation does not occur completely.

Owner of a communicative, charming and charming style, the dolphin chooses the most beautiful single girl of the party and takes her to the bottom of the river. There he gets her pregnant and then abandons her.

The next morning he transforms himself into a river dolphin again. For this reason, the legend of the Boto is often used to justify a pregnancy outside of marriage.

Furthermore, it is often said that "the child is the child of the boto" when it is the child of an unknown father.
