The idea of the BIBLIOTHECA BESTIARIUM is based on the medieval animal poems of the Physilogus, in which animals were given human characteristics. These tales were mostly inspired by the Christian doctrine of salvation and have survived to this day in figures of the unicorn or the griffin.
I asked the machine about the Bestiary, and this is what it gave me......
The lion has three characteristics (natures). A. He covers his tracks with his tail so that the hunters cannot track him. This signifies the incarnation of the Lord, a secret that was also hidden from the heavenly powers (and the devil, later physiologi add). - B. When the lion sleeps, his eyes are awake, that is, they are open. Thus the body of Christ slept in the death of the cross, but his divinity watched at the right hand of the Father. - C. The lioness gives birth to her cub dead, but on the third day the father comes and blows into its face and thereby brings it back to life. This signifies the resurrection of the Lord on the third day.
