Naturaleza muerta (still life)
I usually choose to show nature through its beauty, its vital force , what still endures. I’m interested in insisting on life. But lately, I’ve felt overwhelmed by a deep sense of loss. Forests burn, water is polluted, animals die, natural life disappears — it’s an ecocide. Everything feels more fragile. Meanwhile, rights are violated, wars advance, and a genocide unfolds — far away, but not that far. Death becomes impossible to ignore. Skulls have always unsettled me; they carry a strange energy, especially animal ones. Expecting they died a dignified, painless death feels utopian. I remembered a book I read years ago: "Regarding the Pain of Others", by Susan Sontag. It came back to me now, maybe because of the current context… and I find myself wondering how to look at what hurts, and how to keep creating from there.
