This work was created in 2006 in the context of a group exhibition of young Greek artists paying hommage to the great Dutch master. It was exhibited in the Greek Ministry of Foreign affairs in Athens, Greece in 2006 and in de Haagse Kunstkring Gallery, the Hague, the Netherlands in 2007. More than a self-portrait, it is a painting about painting, and about Rembrandt's impactful contribution to the art in general. In this work, I am remixing three of the old master's famous portraits and self portraits, created at various stages in his life into an original composition. While still developing my skills as an artist, I wanted to focus on the elements that, for me, made Rembrandt's art so sublime, mainly light, shadow, alla prima brushwork and a deep introspective look into the subject's character and psyche, even when that subject happens to be yourself.
