Spongenuity, the alias of Samer Dabra, is a visual and generative artist who uses Processing to create algorithmically drawn portraits from a random seed generated by an input message. His portraits also take physical form as plotter drawings and embroidery, creating a multi-medium practice that links digital and physical work.,
In July 2022 Bright Moments hosted his Spongenuity's Portrait Lab in London, where visitors to the gallery were photographed and each photograph was generatively converted into a one-line drawing plotted in real time.,Each piece survives as a live animation that replays the plotter's original path, with three additional outputs that can be triggered when viewed live. After the project, Dabra joined the Bright Moments team to help run its London operations.
For Bright Moments Tokyo in 2023, Dabra departed from portraiture with Nature finds a way., a collection of 100 abstract compositions made using Reaction Diffusion, an algorithm he had experimented with for five years.,The project was also his first to use shaders, which he learned with encouragement from Piter Pasma and Mario Carillo.Hold The Line depicts two hands joined through intricate line work and rapid motion, conceived to represent strength in numbers.
