Shi Zheng (Chinese, b. 1990) works across audio-visual installation, digital music, and live performance, extending the audience's visual and audio experience through computer technology.,His work reflects an ongoing interest in simulation, “machine vision”, and “latent time”.He earned a B.A. from the China Academy of Art in 2014 and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and lives and works in Shanghai.,
Since his 2014 composition Offset, he has focused on virtual landscape and the systems that operate behind the screen. In his series Nimbus, begun in 2015, he renders clusters of cloud and gas originating from radiant light.In 2013 he co-founded the collective RMBit with Nenghuo, Wang Zhipeng, and Weng Wei to address the social media landscape of the time, and he and Nenghuo are also members of the audio-visual performance group OSC (Open Super Control).,
Since 2018 he has developed Frosty Morning, an ongoing series made using generative adversarial networks.In 2019 his work was included in the AI-themed group exhibition “Mind the Deep”.In 2024 MUD Gallery in Shanghai gave the series a solo exhibition, reflecting the gallery's expanding focus on AI alongside generative art.That same year his work also appeared in “Patternmaker's Maze” at Lisson Gallery in Shanghai.In 2025 he took part in “Silicon-based: New Creator”, a group exhibition on AI and contemporary art at Tang Contemporary Art in Beijing.
