Shane Richardson is an illustrator and generative artist who has served as Art Director on Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants. Alongside his animation work, he contributed to Baby Shark's Big Movie, The Casagrandes, Santiago of the Seas, Shimmer & Shine and The Book of Life. He lives in Los Angeles, California.
Richardson also makes generative art, releasing work on Art Blocks under projects including Billows, Ouroboros and Breathe You. Of his practice he has said “my art seeks to ignite the spark of curiosity and reflection within each observer”, describing it as “an invitation to journey inward, explore the depths of self, and connect with the vastness of the human experience”.In 2023 he collaborated with the artist Harvey Rayner on marfaMESH, an event-driven algorithmic artwork made for Art Blocks' Marfa Weekend, building the companion app that let participants record interactions by tapping NFC-enabled lanyards together.
In September 2024 he released BIT L'ORDS, a generative collection of Bitcoin Ordinals inspired by Rorschach inkblots, ancient totems and cryptic symbols, distributed through 512 Collector Packs each containing eight generative outputs of varying rarity.
