Art Ralgo is a generative artist who writes code to explore randomness and chaos, from scribbled abstractions to surreal seascapes.,Working mostly in long-form generative art on platforms including fxhash and Art Blocks, Ralgo builds each collection around a specific algorithmic system, then curates the outputs into a final edition.
Ralgo's first release on fxhash was Illuminations, a 64-edition study of sine-wave interactions between waves and colour. In Overgrowth, a randomly moving brush and a shrinking, alternating overlay of white and black circles combine into complex scribble landscapes. Overgrowth X8 extended the idea to eight brush heads, curated into six starting configurations. Continuum combines 2D and 3D random walks in colour and space.Tails of Majestic Creatures frames a study of reed-like forms within an invented myth about creatures banished from the night sky.,Fictional Cityscapes, an edition of 128 on fxhash, builds cityscapes from gradient lines that randomly change width.
Quantum Places Lost in Time evolved through several earlier forms, from a study of points of light to birds and ships built from bezier shapes, before settling into its final study of frozen, static scenes.It minted out on fxhash through a Dutch auction that opened at 25 Tezos.Order v Chaos, released on Verse in February 2023 as a follow-on from Overgrowth, introduced colour for the first time and set ordered elements against growing chaotic forces.,
In Seasky, a 100-piece collection released on Art Blocks in October 2023, Ralgo built dramatic seascapes from layered generative clouds, light and sea, citing the cloud studies of JMW Turner and the pointillist sea textures of Paul Signac and Claude Monet as reference points. For the piece's generative colour, he drew on an approach to fully generative colour described by the artist Harvey Rayner.Seasky Aria reworked each Seasky output with AI and image-manipulation tools into 4K seascapes, gifted as a companion collection to Seasky's owners. Wild Wave Studies continued the Seasky aesthetic on Verse by feeding generative-code images through AI settings and prompts, with the resulting waves shaped by the styles of Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Salvador Dalí. Ralgo curated the collection's final 50 pieces from more than 5,000 candidate images.
