Peter The Roman is a digital artist from the UK who spent over 15 years in traditional art before moving fully into digital work. Their work centers on everyday objects and sculptures smothered by garish, melting organic blob forms that are at once grotesque and beautiful, caught in a constant state of flux.
They have said the computer screen became their primary creative outlet during periods when phobias kept them from leaving the house, one lasting as long as two years. In the ongoing series Porcelain Dreams, Unearthly Blooms, and Imaginary Paintings, they combine 3D modelling, collage and artificial intelligence to produce imaginary sculptures and paintings that exist only as digital images.,,They have said they long for these forms to stand physically in a gallery, but find a strange comfort in their unreality, and describe the AI they work with as if it too wanted its own existence to be real.
In 2024 they released Blob Soldiers, an anti-war project in which digital blob creatures smother toy soldiers and their weapons, rendering them harmless.Collectors could mint one soldier at a time to build an army on a shared digital battlefield, and the project raised funds for the Red Cross Ukrainian Crisis Appeal.,Apocalyptish, a closed collection of 100 works released on Verse and sold out, reworks the kitsch imagery of porcelain figurines into grotesque, melting forms drawn loosely from the symbolism of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. In 2024 they were an artist speaker at the 20th edition of Pictoplasma in Berlin, where their artwork was used for the festival's official poster. They also run PTR Studio, producing AI-driven art direction, video and image campaigns for luxury, fashion and cultural brands.
