Born in the early 1980s, he discovered photography in a darkroom at age eleven and computer programming a year later through a BASIC Language Programming Club, experiences he credits with shaping his interest in technical, rules-based, and procedural art making.¹ He earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Sciences in 2003 and an MFA in Film and Animation in 2008, both from the Rochester Institute of Technology,¹ and later taught film and video production at the Art Institute of Washington.¹

Under the Zenerative framework, he makes on-chain generative art rooted in Zen and Ch'an Buddhism, releasing core projects such as Ensō, FOCUS, Scratch, and Time Between the Lines is Thread Through the Mind through Art Blocks and Plottables. Every Zenerative project is issued from the same Ethereum account, Zenerative.eth, and he buys renewable energy credits each month to offset it, aiming to make the projects carbon negative.⁴ In 2025 he released At the Still Point of the Turning World: Algorithmic Self Portrait on Art Blocks.⁵

His Hypercastle Explorers project builds community tools to visually interpret the layered 3D structure, called a Hypercastle, that underlies Terraforms, a generative NFT collection released by the anonymous duo Mathcastles in December 2021.^2,3 Describing the project's community, he said “Terraforms gestures towards a world where meaningful computing and software literacy becomes widespread and people engaging with computers transcend the role of 'user' to become something more like a 'digital citizen', an empowered participant in a system”.³ In 2024 his work appeared in “All At Once”, a Bitcoin Ordinals show presented by GrailersDAO and Singular.art alongside Sarah Meyohas, Rhea Myers, and Jennifer and Kevin McCoy, among others.^1,6
