Lucas Aguirre is an Argentine artist who scans paint strokes, people and places three-dimensionally and reconfigures them in virtual reality, moving the results back and forth between the digital and the physical.,Working across photogrammetry, 3D scanning and traditional painting, he channels the socio-political turbulence of his native Argentina into virtual works of passion, turmoil and resilience.
Aguirre studied Visual Arts at the National University of Córdoba, specialising in painting, before leaving in his final year to work as a freelance artist.,Over roughly fifteen years he worked across the visual arts, including as an illustrator, before returning to gallery-based practice and artistic residencies in Argentina's small local art market.His 2014 solo show “A crack in everything” was held at Museo Genaro Pérez in Argentina. His work was also shown at museums including Museo della Permanente in Milan and Museo Emilio Caraffa in Córdoba.In 2019 he presented Islas, a VR experience exhibited in Argentina.He has described photogrammetry as an evolution of photography, offering a more visceral, three-dimensional way of capturing a moment.
In 2020 he completed Viejos Problemas Nuevas Soluciones (Old Problems, New Solutions), which he has described as a breakthrough after two years of combining photogrammetry-based 3D scans of the physical world with sculpting and painting in virtual reality. During the pandemic he lost his three jobs in VR freelancing, muralism and art teaching.On August 7, 2020, he minted his first piece, Lanza (Spear), drawn from Islas, after being selected as a SuperRare artist.,In 2021 he presented the solo exhibition “A Constructive Instability” at Art Mûr in Montreal, featuring works including Rescatarse and Viejos Problemas Nuevas Soluciones.,
In 2022 Kate Vass Galerie included him in its “Dimensionalisti” programme at CADAF New York, alongside Charles Csuri and Ganbrood.,The show presented Aparecida, a work scanning an analog painting into 3D and reworking it in virtual reality.In 2023 he was featured in Fakewhale's “Visual Detachment II”, a Nifty Gateway Cross Drop with Jesse Draxler, Nikita Diakur and diewiththemostlikes.In 2024 he contributed to the debut of Fakewhale's “ART MARKET” on Foundation, alongside Franco Bellavita.,
