Louis-Paul Caron (French, b. 1995) is a digital artist based in Lyon who combines oil painting, video and artificial intelligence to explore the effects of climate change.,,,Trained in design and digital arts at École Boulle, Design Academy Eindhoven and ENSAD Paris, he grounds his practice in the concept of solastalgia, the distress caused by environmental loss.,
During his studies in digital arts, Caron made animated short films about ecology before reworking Italian Renaissance paintings from the Louvre in 3D software, using them to study color, light and composition. He later returned to oil painting, combining it with digital tools and artificial intelligence to explore a world he describes as being on the brink of ecological collapse.
His series Incendies depicts people who stand passively and watch wildfires burn,a scene he has summarized with the words “The world burns. We sit. We watch.”The works translate statistical wildfire data into slow-motion visualizations that reflect on climate change, data and the aesthetics of catastrophe.Galerie Danae gave the series a solo exhibition in Paris, “Incendies — Après les flammes”, in 2024,and Caron later showed Incendies works, including L'envers du décor, with Danae at Paris Photo's Digital Sector and at Art Basel in 2025.,,
His 2025 series A Gentle Collapse repeats a set of motifs, including mountains, a couple, a window and a dining table, drawn from 1950s American consumer culture to evoke the comfort of modern life. He treats each artwork as unique rather than as part of an edition. For this series some works were also produced physically as prints on textured Hahnemühle paper, alongside research in oil painting, pen plotting, video projection and fabric printing. He treats AI as one tool among several, developing a prompt-based dialogue with the software to shape his imagery in the same way he would use a pencil or a paintbrush.
Galerie GADCOLLECTION in Paris gave Caron a solo exhibition from June 12 to July 11, 2025, presenting digital paintings, video and AI works about ecology, technology and possible futures.In 2026 Caron received the Villa Albertine's Art in the Age of AI award for a Los Angeles residency, developing a project on the Pacific Palisades wildfires in collaboration with Refik Anadol Studio.,,
